Coop recognized early, that paper bills cause high costs for Coop and its suppliers and that the adoption of the electronic bill implicates clear advantages for all parties involved. The compliance with legal regulations in respect to VAT conformity and an optimal support of the operative processes have been crucial for Coop’s decision for PayNet. Coop and selective suppliers have participated in a pilot project to evaluate the advantages and the VAT compliance in a productive environment. Between September and December 2004, VAT compliant electronic bills have been exchanged and special cases such as cancellations, credit notes etc. have been verified. At the end of this test phase in December 2004, the ESTV confirmed Coop within the inspection, that the solution implemented with PayNet meets the legal requirements. Due to Coop’s decision for the PayNet network the electronic bill will gain additional momentum within the retail branch.
